Pieces development

Felt to work with for the board game. First was sourced from Made in Marion, which was out of our price range for what was needed for the larger final model.
Second lot of felt which was found at Geoffs Emporium for only $5 a metre.
Logs: we wanted to create 3D logs that the characters could hide in.

Character making and original felt 'power up dice'

Pouches for the cards and pieces not attached

Final dice!

Islands:

Island shapes that we used in the end, general and random 'future home islands of the frogs'

Original island shapes that we worked with. In the end we created 'future" islands for the frogs, considering one of the frogs species does not live on an island, and the confusion this may cause.

Board development

Our first iteration attempting to use hexagons and a topographical aesthetic
Trying to work out the mechanics of the board was tricky on screen. This iteration was too complex.
Paper print out that we used for a few weeks- was great to write on and edit with playtesting

I made the original prototype of our board game,  it was great to be able to move everything around and playtest with. The children (and us too) loved the materiality of the felt and pieces.
Final board game/layout
All set up!
